With more nutrients per calorie than any other food, spirulina is a great food to add to your diet. But how do you eat it? Well, I recently got a sample package in the mail from Green Tara that included some “spirulina crunchies” and “energy bites” and they were fabulous! Each sample package was packed with a whopping 20 grams of protein. WOW! In case you aren’t familiar with spirulina, it’s a fresh water algae that is high in protein, iron, calcium, magnesium and all kinds of other vitamins & minerals.

Now on to the Samples ...
The
“Spirulina Crunchies” are so yummy! They are straight up spirulina shaped into “bacon bit” shapes, perfect for sprinkling on salads, soups, dips & in lettuce wraps. And the flavor and texture are fabulous! Crunchy & savory. We put a bowl of them out at our monthly potluck & they were a crowd pleaser ... everyone enjoyed the crunch, the flavor & the added health benefits.

The “Energy Bites” are adorable, chewy, bite sized treats that contain banana, coconut and sesame seeds along with spirulina. They are tasty, addictive & so satisfying. I think of all of the crappy things I used to treat myself to pre-raw food ... like sugary coffee drinks, muffins, bready pastries ... and now I think about fantastic raw goodies that I can treat myself to when I want something special and different, and these treats fit the bill. YUMMMMMM! And don’t expect me to share many with you ... I like ‘em too much! Happy Check out the Kids Gone Raw blog post about the “Green Tara energy bites” that were left in the fairy house for my niece.

Thank you, Green Tara for sharing your fab spirulina food with us! YOU RAWK! Happy Be sure to visit the Green Tara website & try some goodies out for yourself!

Raw Food & Protein

I just came back from a yummy raw food potluck. We had maki rolls, collard wraps, kale salad, chocolate cookies & raspberry sugar cones. HAPPINESS!!!!!! It was fun to talk raw food & share. We were chatting about the most frequently asked question raw foodies get: “Where do you get your protein?” Let me tell you where we get our protein ... from greens, veggies, fruit, nuts, seeds & sprouted grains. Yep, there is protein in ALL of them! Animals live & thrive off of greens, veggies, fruit & grains, so why can’t we! As a raw vegan, I am just taking out the middle man & going directly for the source. Happy
